Intertextuality

In one of our media lessons we looked at intertextuality and how one image had been recreated a number of times, however, it till gave a similar effect/vibe.

The first image of the flag being raised at Iwo Jima instantly bombarded me with impressions of teamwork. The men raising the flag are clearly working together, and I believe this shows that they believe in what they're fighting for. The american flag is their pride and joy at the end of the battle.
In the Iwo Jima picture, the American flag is somewhat patriotic and stands out as a beacon of hope in their obvios besolate and destroyed state. It is a symbol which should help give them peace of mind and a sense of accomplishment.
Another idea could be that the flag is reflecting or symbolising a sense of accomplishment or success. The american flag is claiming the ground as a point, and stands for a victory. This one american flag somehow brings together everything in the picture. It makes you think that they are doing the country proud.
The second picture of a flag being raised at 'Ground Zero' is of paramount importance to the american people. It's a constant reminder of the horror that people that happened and to keep the people who lost their lives in mind. The colours on the american flag symbolise the nation, alongside the state stars. This could symbolise that despite this calamity, people from all over america will be there in body and soul.
The flag being raised at 'Ground Zero' is on a memorial site. This reflects a certain feeling of respect and honour that the american people clearly have for the losses. The flag could be a symbol to show that they're not alone.
From the background in the image, you can see the shattered wood and other materials where the incident obviously occured. This shows that in the foreground, in the future, they're hoping for the best and are showing support.
The third picture is of a memorial where, again, the flag is being raised. Again, it is in the same angled positionas the other two before. This could symbolise holding your head low to remember what happened. The main point of this image was that because it's a memorial, it will last forever and will not ever be forgotten. They are clearly honouring the dead and are raising a flag in their memory.
The final picture is of the same as the first, but is a recreation of Iwo Jima. It has been recreated in lego for a specific reason. This could possibly imply that they are trying to get through to try inspire and inform kids as well.
