What do you want to find?

Welcome to my AS Level Media blog! I have been keeping up to date with all my progress featured on this blog and have endeavoured to use as much detail as possible! Alongside my blog, I have a blue portfolio of which holds some of my main storyboards and ideas for each of the tasks set by our teacher. I intend both the blog and my portfolio to be crammed full of ideas and information. Enjoy!

On the Sidebar, from the months presented choose September. Scroll to the bottom of the page and this will bring you to the beginning of my journey.

'Hide and Seek'

In our lesson in T13, we watched Ellie, Abbie and Hannah do their presentation on the opening of Hide and Seek. I made my own notes of the opening of which are featured below.

Screaming hints of genre.
Extreme clos-up of eyes - smiling?
180 degree angle - audience uncomfortable
New Year - Good?
Sets scene - New York City
Spinning - going to spiral out of control
Dead trees - Horror genre reinforced
Winter - cold
Water in background - still
Black clothes - Death
Family picture in foreground - something is going to happen to them
Childs room covered in toys
Laughter - good mood conveyed
Dolly - bad connotations - old/broken etc - yet most prized possession - seen twice
Making faces - scare babies - two sides to it
Dark room - light on face
Two - shot - implies couple, but distant (not close)
Two shot conversation - builds tension
Candles in bath contrast, water and fire.
2:06 - early morning of the new year
Grey bedclothes - all is not black and white - as it seems
Rumbling music builds tension
Shot from behind as Robert DeNiro is walking down corridor suggest we're an onlooker
White/cold corridor
Candles still on - wife dead in bath
Disorientated noise - like lost hearing - lost sense of himself - in shock/disbelief
Zooms into girls face - close up on eyes - mirrors emotion like she knows something
Walks toward liht - encroaching death
'Hide and Seek' title - once was lost, now found - death saved her? - problems with husband - husband hiding second personality - mentioning of therapy.
Blond curly hair implies angelic qualities - contrasts with black dress.
Music - nursery rhymes
Last happy moment - delightful
Aerial shot - audience involved in relationship and story is focused on them
Dark - sets tone.
Glasses - hiding emotions.
More happening under the surface.
Sound bridge - seem close when really quite distant
Disjointed family - family portrait blurred as if not important
Red - continuing colour refers to blood and her latter death
Portrait stays in frame to suggest that is why she is unhappy
Child version of hide and seek - juxtaposed with later when husband finds her.
Opening and closing doors - trapped
Sharp and confusing hand gestures.
Not shown under the bed - childs imagination - something under the bed - fear of the unknown.
Doll - Protection.
Light - Love for daughter (fond)
Dark - Depression
Slow non-diagetic music shows trust in relationship
Calls for her 'mummy' - child like
Comfort - glasses
Jewellry is being taken off implies leaving bits of herself behind.
Dripping of tap - water is now moving. Still water at park symbolises how their lives aren't moving. Now she's dead, something is going to happen, almost as if something is going to get them.
Flashback/memory - cry for help
Empathise with man when wife dies.
Bed made up - left - wants to be forgotten
Slow walking - apprehensive.
A-synchronous tap drip - curiosity/tension - Non expectant
Closed door - who closed it? Did she kill herself?
Gets audience thinking
ONLY mirror shot in entire film - weakness - split personality
Slow-motion
Wife - Drained - Lifeless
Shadow of little girl
3 candles in two shot - unlucky number - could represent 3 members of family
Two next to each other and a third a distance away represent shot of room - husband and wife together and girl far away at doorway.
Fire - close up of girls eyes - imprinted on her forever - scarred.
