Researching Film Company Logos

Below is a list of Film Openings we watched via a compilation video on YouTube.

- Dreamworks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQioRAW2c3k&feature=related
Commonly distributing family orientated films, seen as friendly, 'magical', approachable and showing the company is hardworking and appeals to middle class people. The font is simple but known worldwide by those who have seen any classic dreamworks productions.

- Summit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8bhI7D8na8
A simple logo of which is most recently blue with a white outline of a mountain - referring to the name 'summit'. A simple logo which is effective and memorable and could be used to distribute many different films and isn't stationary on one specific genre. It also appeals to many different classes from upper to middle as it doesn't have anything which distinguishes it from others particularly.

- GK Films
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x8HjGDJkZw
The GK Films logo has changed many times during the companies existance. There is a certain mystical but heavenly feel to it as the words are comfortably settled between the softly depicted clouds. The stars also represent a certain feel of class and therefore may appeal to the upper middle class. It however doesn't have any specific features which would make it appeal to lower classes. The colours are blue and calm - not striking and so quietly draw your attention to the white title in the middle.

- River road
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhv3D3vPzvU
River Road is not as well known a company as Dreamworks or Paramount and produces smaller budget films. The logo is as the name suggests and features a river in the shape of a road between a forest. The sound is 'whooshing', representing a rush of wind, possibly implying that the company is like a breathe of fresh air to the film industry. The font is thin and formal and would most likely appeal to the middle class as well as young adultsm but it isn't aimed specifically at anyone.

- Bad Hat Harry
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTOCpQZxcwg
Bad Hat Harry tend to distribute Action films of a high quality so people know what to expect. Originally the logo featured two cartoon men sitting on a beach with a comedy voice for the character, obviously appealing to the lower class. This was used when distributing comedies such as Two and a Half Men. This was later reworked and was taken more seriously by the upper classes and was used to distribute films. It was redesigned so it resembled a graffitit stencil type shape on a wall. The colours were striking and completely different to the original and with no comedy voices. This could be used for action or adventure films.

- Jerry Bruckheimer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u066e7aTvP4
The Jerry Bruckheimer logo is a very short cinematic picture which features a tracking shot along a road before a tree comes into view. This is then struck by lightening. The logo could appeal to any class and isn't gender specific.

- Relativity Media
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTuX_-Nwvx0
The relativity media logo definitely reflects the sci-fi theme which is useful as it has distributed Scf-fi films in the past. There are dark colours used creating a sense of mystery, however the title stands out. The logo is simple with the title standing out to grab the attention of the viewer. This logo implies that the company and the films they distribute are 'out of this world', reinforced so by the mass of planets around them.
- Tristar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anVgBC95JEU
The TriStar logo features a Pegasus animal on the logo which links strongly to greek mythology. The clouds in the background look like they had been painted archaically. This creates the impression that the company have been around for a long time and are very successful. It is accompanied with a triumphant fanfare again reinforcing the idea that they are very successful and this also grabs the attention of the audience before the film has begun, making it memorable. The colours used within the logo are gold and light blue, pale but strong in the sense that they exert wealth and success into the piece. This company has surprisingly distributed many horror films including Silent Hill of which we analysed in our group. The company has also been very successful in the box office alongside the memorable image and is globally known.
- Pixar
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UBYtgfrT85g
The company Pixar is obviously not suited for horror due to it's childlike manner and character 'lamp' made famous by the logo. This also implies that the company is family orientated and a friendly atmosphere is definately not for horror - family orientated - friendly atmosphere created by lamp - well known thanks to Toy Story - animated childrens movies - light hearted sounds and colours coincide with each other

To avoid copyright, we are advised to use our own music in our opening title sequence as well as our logo.
Above are the YouTube links to all Company Logos to show a variety and how they can be applied to different genres of film.
